Go away for the weekend - nice hotel near whatever attraction you think is appropriate
Make a scrapbook of pictures from your last year, or two, or whatever, together... that shows you put thought into his gift, not just money. Maybe include a picture of the Labree exhaust with a witty caption about not buying it.
